under the weather

Today I am a bit under the weather and I apologize. I meant to write about male tattoos but I didn't get all of that done. My cat is being put to sleep in about ten minutes.

For the ladies, even though some debate that.

Some people debate the fact that females should have tattoos. If you have read my previous blogs, you'll notice that there are reasons for women in certain cultures to have tattoos. My parents don't think that a tattoo is a good idea for anyone, much less their little girl.

My brother has tattoos, but this is about us, ladies. You can still be a lady and have tattoos.
The tattoo across the front of the body between a female's hip bones, I have never found one that is not trashy.

First the non-lady tattoos, a lower back tattoo, i referred to a a tramp stamp and it usually a Celtic butterfly, or flowers or something along those lines. The idea that when a man sees this tattoo, he assumes that a woman is easy, these women are not ladies. They are trashy, they know the connotation when they put the tattoo there to begin with.

Moving on to the breast tattoo. Girls, paw prints on your breasts is not going to bring the right attention. Neither will lip prints. No tattoo that I have ever seen on a females breast has given a positive connotation.

A lady tattoo is permanent cosmetics. It's a tattoo, and makeup at the same time, never have to reapply lipliner or eyeliner again.

The script alone a females side can be classy when the text is appropriate and the typography is well done. I found one that said "Tha Boss", but I also found one of blossoming flowers.

I would just like to add, that when getting tattooed, use correct English. Yes, my example is not female, but it was a great example of grammar, not capitalization. This poor girl thinks her tattoo is awesome, and it just loses the intensity becasue of her terrible grammar.

the idea of a religious tattoo

Upon the realization that most people have no idea the background of their "tribal tattoos" I have decided to help them out and explain. Tribal tattoos are originally Irish.

Celtic Cross
The idea that the celtic cross is seen in three obviously different ways can, if known by the tattooed, can be special. It is known by the druids to be a phallic symbol, the pagans that the designer, Saint Patrick was trying to convert, as the sun god that they worship and as Christians as the infinity of God's love.

The idea that people in our culture proudly sport a Celtic Cross is ridiculous unless they are aware of the meaning.

Celtic Butterfly
The butterfly is known as the symbol for rebirth and the idea that the person wearing this tattoo has had trials and tribulations and made it through to the other side.
I think i would rather have a phoenix.
The idea that the butterfly is now used so often to not only adorn the lower backs of many females, but has lost its meaning, is evident.

Our culture may be more accepting of tattoos but in general has lost the meaning behind them.

Proper burial
In time of the crusades, the Christian warriors would tattoo a cross on the back of their hand in case they were killed. This was to (I think it was wishful thinking) ensure a Christian burial in the foreign countries they were going to. If Christians made a successful pilgrimage to Jerusalem, they were tattooed there and when they came back, they were more revered.

The Sioux warriors were incredibly worried about being buried without tattoos. They were to be properly marked on forehead, wrist and tip of the chin of they would be dropped off of a cliff in the afterlife and returned to earth to wander forever.

Those religions prohibiting
Moslems are prohibited, unless the tattoo is religious. The idea that they will not make it to paradise if they have tattoos, is over ruled if they believe in a purification by fire before they enter judgment.

The crescent with a star is the most popular for Moslem.

Christianity and Juddaism also prohibit even though the mandate is in the Old Testament and therefore Christians should not eat pork either. But that's beside that point.

Jews still have the habit of allowing, but not happily, the Judaic symbols, Star of David, menorah and the name of Yahweh.

Christians tend to stick to the cross, doves, angels, praying hands, and sometimes branch out to a crown of thorns.
Catholics are known for their rosary and the Madonna tattos

To close i leave you with a rather interesting list of tattoos. 30 most popular religious tattoos

not much to say...

not much to say.

So when looking at modern tattoos, some people get tattooed for one of four reasons:
1. Got drunk
2. Lost a bet
3. has some meaning
4. wants to look like everyone else

The point of tattoos has changed over the years. It used to be that it was a cultural thing and status in that culture. Now it is simply that the person wants it.

Celtic tattoos are the fad for men with large biceps.
Tattoos on your lower back so it shows when your shirt rides up and your pants can sit where they are supposed to, these are generally referenced to as a "tramp stamp" on females.
The tattoo on a person's back is usually the best tattoo on a person's body. It has a large area for a piece.

This is all for this week. Sorry so short. I'll do better next time

History in the making

To get started, here is a link that anyone can go to, and can pick out the specific part of the world or group of people that you want to know how tattooing became part of that society.

In Africa, not being racist, please don't think I am, since the people that live there happen to be black and the ink of the time happened to be black, the art of "tatau" was used. This is the raising of skin and scarring with a knife or razor. The scars were placed when a female was "becoming a woman" or after she had children. Males were given scars when they reached manhood and other milestones in their lives.

If a person did not have scars they were outcasts.

Women also had tattoos placed on their face because they believed that the spirits entered through the holes in the skin, thus they needed it to be placed somewhere that clothing was not always covering.

The tattoo machine was first patented in Great Britain, by Samuel O'Reilly, and later followed to the Americas.

That's the history for now.

A little intro

This blog will be an insight as to the reason for so much ink on my particular college campus.

First, if you call a tattoo a "tat" you shouldn't have one. It is seen as disrespectful to those that have tattoos, thus ink injected into their skin by a needle. This is a painful experience and to disrespect the reasons that some had to go though this, is not very nice. Just a warning so as to not offend someone.

Second, flash art, those pictures you see on the wall in a tattoo parlor, are not real tattoos. They are used over and over and are unoriginal. Be original and design your own.

Third, the fact that someone can not only draw this pice of art on a person's skin, or paper, is nothing to the art of injecting ink into a person's skin, flawlessly or nearly flawlessly. Art of a new day. This is truly a step forward for artists and art lovers of our day.

In Sanjay Asthana's media design class, the first lesson is to know the history of something before you can appreciate the modern twists that our society have adopted.

The idea that tattoos are popular and so costly make sense, it is a work of art placed on your body. Just a little intro for what my blog is.
